Marta Stares is an artist and educator interested in painting the outdoors, especially the Northern Ontario landscape. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Toronto area including Gallery 1313, Orillia Museum of Art and History, and Ontario Legislative Assembly. Marta was the inaugural Artist in Residence in Lake Superior Provincial Park. She works primarily in oils and uses bold, vibrant colours in her work.

After receiving her BFA from OCAD University, Marta has worked as an educator at McMichael Canadian Art Collection and Visual Arts Mississauga. Marta currently teaches Visual Art in Peel District School Board.

Autumn. I basically just sit around and wait for sugar maples to turn red.

What kind of artwork do you have in your home?

A couple of sketches by Elly Smallwood, a painting by Sarah Carlson, my own paintings. Currently running out of wall space.

What do you listen to when you work?

Podcasts: Radiolab, Criminal, I Like Your Work, 99% Invisible
